GUZO165: ZIWAY AND OTHER RIFT VALLEY LAKES ETHIOPIA

GUZO165 is a travel book written and published by Ethiopian Travel Writer and Photographer Dawit Tibebu and featuring images of young Ethiopian photographers professionals who are passionate about their homeland. The book narrates about a destination 165kms far from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and its surrounding natural area. 

Dawit Tibebu travelled to Lake Ziway, island monasteries and the Rift Valley Lakes, which created a great inspiration to prepare this book. The reason this edition named GUZO165 is the distance of Addis Ababa to Ziway, which is 165 km. The book describes detail information, facts and stories of a place called Ziway in southern Ethiopia. Sadly it’s known to some people, this place hosts the following features.

     • a history more than a thousand years.

     • a hiding place of the Ark of the Covenant for more than 40 years in the 9th century

     • holds various a great deal ancient church manuscripts and accessories which are still the source of contemporary art and wisdom.

     • a home of a thousand years monasteries, many church rituals, monks and lifestyle.

     • a home of the northernmost lake in the southern Rift Valley and the largest in the chain.

     • a home of a fantastic variety of aquatic and arboreal bird species on its five islands, shoreline, and neighbouring forests.

     • a place where 2,454 tons of fish are landed each year.

     • an aspiringly developing city.

The Great Rift Valley also creates amazing natural phenomena holding seven massive lakes including Ziway. The book covers all of them preparing a spread for each of them. In addition, the publication covers national parks these Rift Valley Lakes neighbored which are Abijata-Shala National Park and Nechi Sar National Park.
